FAITH WEAVERS:
Faith Weavers is currently taking a break in recognition of the Christmas and New Years holidays through January 7th. We will plan to resume classes on January 14th. With that in mind, if your child is between Kindergarten and 6th grade, please consider having them join us for our stellar second semester of faith building, fun, and fellowship! Parents can find more information and register on our church website under “Educational Ministries” and “Faith Weavers.” We hope to see you this new year!
Also, if you would be interested in donating to support this program, besides monetary donations, included below is a list of some requested food items. As always, your support and encouragement is greatly appreciated!
Please put non-perishable donations in the marked bin in the kitchen with a note (from who, for who) and alert church staff about your donation. Cold items should be put in the refrigerator, and frozen items should be placed in the freezer. For more information, contact Mr. Jareske.
For February and March
1. Packages of hamburger buns
2. Rolls of 85/15 or 80/20 ground beef
3. Bags of tortilla chips
4. Regular packages of frozen chicken nuggets
5. Regular packages of frozen french fries
6. Cans of green beans
7. Packages of hotdog buns
8. Cans of mandarin oranges
FAITH WEAVERS HELP:
As this weekly event is dependent on the teamwork of volunteers and supporters, we are once again putting out the call for assistance. If you feel called to help during our second semester of classes by serving in some capacity, week to week, please contact Kim Baumann, Suzie Wachter, or Mr. Jareske (402-329-4313) in the near future. Volunteers can be 7th grade and older. We are still looking for individuals to assist with our various stations, cooking meals, and helping with serving the meals, without cooking. As such, if you believe that you might be able to help in one of these ways, please let us know as soon as possible.
ZION TUITION ASSISTANCE FUND:
If you would like to help provide students with a Christian education, please consider donating to the Zion tuition assistance fund. It is easy to donate! Make checks payable to Zion Lutheran School and just write in the memo tuition assistance. Have a special student in mind for assistance? Contact the school office at 329-4658 to set up a donation for them.
SCRIP:
Mrs. Anson is still taking orders for scrip. They are due every Monday by midnight. If she doesn’t have what you need on hand, orders may take up to one week before they are available.
ANNOUNCEMENTS:
If you have announcements or upcoming events you would like posted or announced, please contact the church office by noon on Wednesday. Also, if anyone has updates to their address, phone number, email, or member status, please notify the church office of any changes.
SERVICE ASSISTANCE:
If any youth students would be willing to assist during church services on Sunday mornings, please call 402-329-4313 to let the church office know. We are currently looking for both ushers and technology booth assistance, and training will be provided for anyone willing to serve in either capacity. We have recently resumed live-streaming our Sunday morning services with our new camera equipment, and in an effort to better manage all of the moving parts within a typical service, a few additional volunteers to assist with either running the soundboard, running the camera, or managing the slideshow would be very much appreciated.
VISITOR CARDS:
Please make sure to have visiting family members, or new visitors, fill out the visitor cards, not attendance cards, if they are only attending for the week.
DISCOUNT CARDS:
We are still offering discount cards to fundraise for various youth events, activities, and initiatives, and just as before these cards are full of discount offers with the generous support from many local businesses from around this area. If you would like to purchase one of these cards, please speak with a youth student, Mr. J, or call the church office, Monday through Thursday, to inquire. The cost of each card is $10, they are only valid for one calendar year, and limitations and exclusions do apply. See card for details. At this time, we can only accept cash or checks, and checks can be made out to "Zion Lutheran Youth.”
HIGH SCHOOL YOUTH MEETING: Our next monthly meeting for high school youth students, 9th through 12th grades, is scheduled to take place this Sunday, February 8th, from 1PM to 4PM. We are currently planning to go to Norfolk to go bowling, so please let me know who might be planning to attend in the next week as I might need to work to manage travel for some students on my end. Students can drive themselves, with parent consent, as long as they are 16 and over, and as this is a church function, we do not allow students to ride together without the consent of a parent/guardian. Otherwise, we will plan to meet at the church and then travel to Norfolk from there. Students should bring money for any food they might want, but otherwise we will provide for the bowling. As always, if youth are considering joining us for this great opportunity, they should consider bringing a friend along, as well!
YOUTH FUNDRAISER: The youth students from Zion Lutheran Church will be selling Pastry Puffins again this year for $16 per frozen package until Sunday, February 15th, which is when all order forms will be due to be returned. For those that don’t know, Pastry Puffins are frozen filled pastries, and unlike some other varieties, these can be made directly from frozen without the need for the pastries to rise before baking. They come in multiple types of fillings, including fruit, cream, dessert, and even breakfast pizza, and they come in packages of between 6 and 12 count per package. For those that would like to order, we are asking for payment at the time that orders are placed, and cash and checks are accepted. All checks can be made out to Zion Lutheran Youth Group. Barring an unforeseen delay, orders will be available for pick-up in late March. Please speak to a youth student to learn more and place your order, or if you would like to place an order, Monday through Thursday, please speak with Mr. J during regular business hours. Another option to keep in mind, if you do not have a need for pastry puffins in your own home, but you would still like to support the youth students, you could still place an order and donate those items to the church for the purpose of putting on coffee and fellowship following our Sunday morning service.
ALUMINUM CANS: Our Zion Lutheran School PTLS has recently agreed to take over our aluminum can collection efforts, and to aid with this, a trailer has been recently parked in the gravel parking lot in the same general area as the previous can collection site. They are taking cans currently, and if you would like to collect and donate your aluminum cans to Zion Lutheran School, bags of cans can be placed in the trailer for this purpose. We do ask that all cans be completely empty before being donated, cans be bagged together, and because we will not be inspecting the bags until the time that the bags are redeemed, that only aluminum cans be included, not other garbage. It would also be our preference that cans are crushed, so that way we are getting the most from each bag of cans being taken to Norfolk, but this is not a necessity. Also, if you happen to notice in your donation attempts that the trailer has become full, please feel free to alert the school office. We appreciate your help!
